Description
The Elk River Leadership Breakfast as established in 2004 by Jim Acers to raise awareness and support for local scouting in the Elk River Area.
In honor of Jim's dedication to Scouting, we will be presenting two camperships to local Scout youth to attend a summer camp event at Camp Parker.
Meet the Speaker, Cal Porter.
Cal Portner has spent nearly his entire adult
working career in public service. He enlisted in
the U.S. Air Force after high school, serving nine
years on active duty with assignments in
California, Alaska, Germany, and Nebraska.
After an honorable discharge and a college
internship with U.S. Representative Jim
Ramstad, he was hired as district field director
and served the 3rd Congressional District for
six years before transitioning to local
government. He currently is in his 14 year as
the Elk River City Administrator with 24 years of
municipal experience including stops in
Plymouth and Brooklyn Park.
Cal has a BA in Political Science and History
from the University of Minnesota, an MA in
Public Administration from Hamline University
and is a Credentialed Manager through the
International City/County Manager’s
Association. He has served on boards of
numerous high school and youth booster clubs,
is currently an Elk River Beyond the Yellow
Ribbon board member and is preparing to serve
as Elk River Rotary Club’s president for the
second time.
In his free time, Cal and his wife Penny, love to
travel, watch hockey, and spend time with
family especially their new granddaughter.
